Preamble:

...the purchasing of a house (the "dear, old brick"!) has always been regarded as the safest way to invest one's own money. Nowadays, due to the low interest rates offered by banks, it has become the most lucrative as well. This is all the more true when you talk of promising real estate markets such as Bulgaria's.

After several crisis that have greatly troubled the economic stability of the country from 1989 to 1996, Bulgaria is now living a phase of economic development so strong to get it close to the standards, speaking of inflation, debt and budget deficit, proposed by Copenaghen.
So that the European Union, in its Progress report 2003, has confirmed the existence of an efficient free market economy.

On January 1st 2007, Bulgaria joins the European Union with a real 5,4% GDP growth that goes up further to 6,4% in the first half of the year.

The next and very important goal for the nation is to join the Euro zone within 2010. Meanwhile, Bulgaria's exchange rate is fixed at 1,9558 lev to 1 euro.

That's why the interest showed by foreign economic experts doesn't come as a surprise! Interest that has increased especially in the last two years, thanks also to the positive changes in Bulgarian legislation.
The current government of Bulgaria indeed proved extremely favourable toward the entry of foreign investors, granting them considerable tax relief and incentives.

The taxation level, particularly, is so low to make Bulgaria the most competitive country in the European Union.
